In just a few hours Apple will take the wraps off this year’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus at its event in San Francisco. In the run-up to tonight’s event, we have already come across a bunch of leaks and rumors that have given us a fair idea of what to expect from the upcoming iPhones. Now, a publication has allegedly gone hands-on with the new iPhone 7 and though it hasn’t posted any photos of the iPhone 7, they have shared some interesting details. While most of what Vietnamese publication Tinhte reveals has been leaked before, but there are a few tidbits that have caught our eyes. For one, the hands-on all but confirms that the new iPhones will indeed have better water resistant capabilities. While the publication wouldn’t reveal if there’s an IPX certification, it does talk about a rubber seal added to the SIM tray. The home button placed below the display is also different from before. Instead of being clickable, the home button is now capacitive and will boast Force Touch capabilities. In other words just placing your finger on the Touch ID sensor is likely to unlock the device. This new button is also likely to aid the phone’s water resistance capabilities, since there won’t be any space left for water to seep in. Another big improvement on the upcoming iPhones will be their video recording capabilities. The publication says that the iPhone 7 is capable of recording 4K videos at 60fps. That is a big upgrade, since last year’s iPhones were able to record 4K videos at 30fps. The increase in the number of frames will lead to bigger sized videos, and could also be one of the reasons why Apple is said to be bumping the storage on the base model to 32GB and the higher models to 128GB and 256GB respectively.
The publication also confirms that the new iPhones will come in a new black color that will replace the space gray variant. Now reports claim that there are actually two black variants expected to be unveiled tonight — space black and piano black. With the publication talking about the color variant being a fingerprint magnet, it is likely that they went hands-on with the piano black color, which is expected to get a glossy finish.
It also confirms that Apple has removed the 3.5mm audio jack and the Lightning connector would be used for audio output as well. Though the publication has not seen the iPhone 7 Plus, it confirms that the bigger iPhone would come with a dual-camera setup.
While most of what Tinhte reveals makes a lot of sense and sounds legit as well, and the Vietnamese blog does have a good record when it comes to getting their hands on a new Apple product ahead of launch. But we are still a bit skeptical since the publication has not shared a single photo in their hands-on post. That said, there’s just a few hours left for the event to kick off, so we won’t have to remain in the dark for too long. In the meantime, here’s a look at everything we expect from tonight’s Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus launch event.
