Despite a robust performance, Apple iPhones are known for their delicate architecture. However, the next Apple iPhone could be a little more resistant to the daily wear and tear. While Apple s latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus come with IP67 rating, making them resistant to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes, a new report claims the iPhone 8 will come with IP68 rating, which will bring in the highest-level water resistance on an iPhone ever. The anniversary edition iPhone 8 is further expected to bring back the glass back design which was first seen on the iPhone 4. Along with speculations about three variants, the upcoming smartphone is expected to introduce an OLED display and continue with the dual camera setup as seen on the iPhone 7 Plus. Additionally, it is also expected that with a glass sandwich design, the purported iPhone 8 could also boast a bezel-less design with rounded edges which will be further enhanced by the absence of a physical home button.
Along with the anticipated iPhone 8, the same water and dust resistance capabilities will also be featured in Samsung s upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone. As the two flagships have been locking horns each year, 2017 is unlikely to drift away from their tradition. Both the iPhone 8 and the Galaxy S8 are the premium smartphones to look forward to this year and given that most of the media reports have been hinting at similar specifications, it will yet again mark for an interesting battle between the two companies, especially when Samsung is yet to witness how consumers respond to its flagship smartphone after the Note 7 fiasco.
While the rumored iPhone 8 will be the first Apple iPhone ever to bring the maximum weather protection till date, Samsung is yet again the leader in offering the capability. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is IP68 and Samsung s recently launched smartphones in the A series including the A3, A5, and A7, also come with IP68 rating. Now, based on the report, Samsung is looking at extending the protection to even budget smartphones from its J series. Other manufacturer joining the squad is LG, which is widely expected to make its G6 waterproof.
