Apple clearly has big plans for the iPhone 8, which is being depicted through a series of leaks and rumors. With Apple celebrating the iPhone’s tenth anniversary this year, the expectations are big for the company’s next-generation iPhone. So far, the main highlight of the iPhone 8 has been a bezel-less OLED panel with the Touch ID sensor embedded under the display. The iPhone 8’s design is also expected to undergo a radical change from its predecessors, with the new leak showing off all screen display and thin bezels on all sides.
Spotted by MacRumors, the iPhone 8’s schematics and renders shared by popular leaker KK Leaks shows the phone’s front and back design. According to the schematics, the iPhone 8 could measure 137.54mm tall and 67.54mm wide, there is no word on its thickness. The smartphone is likely to feature a 5.768-inch display, which is bigger than 5.5-inch display on the iPhone 7 Plus. From what has been rumored so far, the iPhone 8 could feature a 5.8-inch display, out of which 5.15-inch would be available for usage. The display could cover the entire front panel with the bezels measuring 4mm and could come with a 2.5D curved glass as well.
Above the display, an earpiece, a front-facing camera lens, the rumored 3D sensor and an ambient light sensor is expected. However, in the renders showing the iPhone 8 after production, only the earpiece is visible, not the other components. Furthermore, the front panel does not show any physical ‘Home’ button which makes sense, but the Touch ID sensor isn’t visible either.
It has been rumored that Apple may go for under glass fingerprint sensor, and it seems likely in case of the leaked render. However, Apple’s plans to introduce an under glass Touch ID sensor for the iPhone 8 appears sketchy based on the recent claim made by Cowen and Company’s Timothy Arcuri. It was said that yields of the new Touch ID sensor are currently low and if they do not improve, Apple might have to change the design. At the back, one of the evident changes come in the form of camera lens placement. The render shows dual-rear camera setup, with the lenses vertically instead of the horizontal design seen on the iPhone 7 Plus. This design is similar to what was shown by SlashLeaks recently. Interestingly, the LED flash is placed between the camera lens, which according to Ben Bajarin, is helpful for augmented reality and 3D features. Other than that, what’s noticeable is the Power button on the right side, and the volume keys along with the Silent key on the left side. The iPhone 8 is believed to the higher -end variant of the iPhones expected to be launched this year. Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 7s and the iPhone 7s Plus as well. All the three rumored iPhones are expected to feature Apple iPad Pro-like True Tone display. The iPhone 8 is also rumored to come in a metallic glass back, which could make it easier to integrate wireless charging technology. A ‘Smart Connector for AR and Charging’ is also one of the excepted features for the iPhone 8. ALSO READ: Apple iPhone 8 rumored to feature smart connector for AR, wireless charging
