First released back in 2016, the Apple iPhone SE has been a particularly successful product for the world’s most valuable tech company. Launched a little after the Apple iPhone 6S and featuring similar hardware to that phone, the Apple iPhone SE has been considered as the iPhone that goes back to the roots of the smartphone range, offering a smaller form factor to users who may have been a bit upset when the iPhones got bigger starting with the iPhone 6. A leaked video today has revealed that the iPhone SE could just get a successor soon – the Apple iPhone SE 2. Not much can be seen from the video, which was spotted on Chinese site miaopai.com. The short video shows a purported Apple iPhone SE 2, which largely resembles the current Apple iPhone SE. However, there are some key differences. The phone has a glass back, which could be used to enable wireless charging as is the case on the Apple iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. Interestingly, alongside the Lightning port is a 3.5mm jack for headphone connectivity. Also Read - Apple releases important iOS 14.7.1 update: iPhone users must download it right now
This is in start contrast to every Apple smartphone starting with the iPhone 7, which did away with the popular headphone connector port. Apple at the time stated that it took ‘courage’ to do this, as it drove its users to go either the Bluetooth way or use headphones that plug into the phone’s Lightning port. While initially it was seen as a sign of the coming death of the 3.5mm standard, that hasn’t quite happened yet.

The iPhone SE continues to sell particularly well in developing markets such as India, and is also one of the few devices sold in India that’s also made in India. Its low price is to credit for that; during sales and offers on major e-commerce portals, the iPhone SE can be bought for less than Rs 20,000. However, the hardware is dated at this point having been released two years ago, with the only upgrade to the device coming in the form of 32GB and 128GB storage variants. An updated iPhone SE 2 would be expected to continue to perform well for users looking for a smaller device, as well as users on a tighter budget that want to use an iPhone.
