If you were thinking there will finally be a successor to the pocketable iPhone SE from two years ago, you are in for some hard luck. Apple is unlikely to devote its resources in developing a successor iPhone SE 2, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The noted analyst reveals in a research note that Apple might not be considering an updated iPhone SE. If at all the company does introduce a new model, it is only going to have a basic processor upgrade, and nothing quite radical to look forward to. Kuo explains that in the second half of 2018, Apple already has three new models planned which include the successors to the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X. Given the complicated design iPhone X had, it is evident the resources will be focusing primarily on building its successor with an even larger 6.5-inch borderless display. The attention is also likely to be towards ensuring a better stock to avoid shipment delays. The researcher expects that if at all there really is an iPhone SE 2 on the cards for Apple, there will be a few changes. According to MacRumors, Kuo expects the device will have a faster processor and a lower price. This stands in contrast to the recent reports which claimed that the iPhone SE 2 will come with iPhone X-like full-screen design, Face ID, and wireless charging.
When launched, the original iPhone SE was much of an experimental model boasting the design of the older iPhone 5 with internals borrowed from the iPhone 6s. Despite being marketed as a device for those looking at an ‘affordable’ Apple phone, the iPhone SE cost a premium at Rs 39,000. However, it made a lot of sense for users who still desired a smaller phone from the brand Apple as opposed to the company’s growing preference for expanding the screen size on its newer iPhones.
Last week, it was reported that Apple iPhone SE 2 could be released in second quarter of 2018 with a glass back similar to the iPhone 8 lineup. Supply chain sources had reportedly revealed the iPhone SE 2 will not come with the Face ID feature. Separate reports indicated that the iPhone SE 2 will retain the smaller 4-inch display as seen on its predecessor, and will be powered by the A10 Fusion chipset with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and pack a bigger 1,700mAh battery.
