Apple iPhone XR with LCD display, A12 Bionic chipset and Face ID now available in India: Price, specifications and features

Apple iPhone XR features a 6.1-inch LCD display, comes in six colors at a starting price of Rs 76,900.

Apple iPhone XR, the cheapest of the three iPhone models, launched last month, is now available for purchase in India. The smartphone was introduced alongside the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max as the only LCD model for 2018. The cheaper iPhone model was available for pre-order starting October 19 and can be purchased in India and more than 50 other countries.

For the 2018 iPhone lineup, Apple is sticking with is three models a year strategy. This year, the iPhone XR comes as the successor to last year’s iPhone 8, which had an LCD display while the iPhone XS replaced iPhone X and iPhone XS Max replaced the iPhone 8 Plus. While the iPhone XS starts at $999 in the US, the iPhone XR starts at $749, making it not only affordable but also in the same ballpark as those upgrade from a year or two old model.

Apple iPhone XR: Price in India

Apple iPhone XR is basically a toned down version of iPhone XR with LCD display, single rear camera and lower storage option. It comes in three storage variants with the base model offering 64GB for Rs 76,900. The iPhone XR with 128GB storage and 256GB storage are priced at Rs 81,900 and Rs 91,900 respectively. The cheaper iPhone model also comes in six different finishes: black, coral, yellow, blue, white and (Product) RED. The smartphone will be available online from Flipkart and via other Apple authorized retailers.

Apple iPhone XR: Specifications and Features

The iPhone XR can be described as the iPhone 5C of 2018. It not only comes in six different color options but also has the same design and features found on premium iPhone XS. It sports a 6.1-inch Retina HD LCD display as opposed to OLED found on the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. The display supports true tone like other iPhones but has slightly thicker bezels surrounding it.

In terms of design, it has aluminum chassis with glass back as opposed to stainless steel casing seen on other two iPhones and last year’s iPhone X. In terms of compromises, Apple has also removed 3D Touch from the iPhone XR and it instead supports long press with haptic support. As far as performance is concerned, the iPhone XR gets the same A12 Bionic SoC coupled with 3GB RAM and up to 256GB storage.

On the camera front, there is a single 12-megapixel rear shooter with smart HDR, optical image stabilization and f/1.8 aperture. It lacks the telephoto camera seen on the iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max but supports portrait mode with three different effects. There is a single 7-megapixel selfie shooter at the front which also supports portrait mode with variable depth of field.

The iPhone XR also lacks Touch ID but supports Face ID for facial authentication. It has a built-in stereo speaker support and uses the lightning port for charging. The cheaper iPhone model runs iOS 12 and has been claimed to offer the longest battery life of all iPhone models this year.
