Apple iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, the two new iPhone models announced at the September 12 event, are reportedly selling better than the 2017 trio of iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X. A report says the smartphone is outselling the models from previous year weeks ahead of the release of cheaper iPhone XR.
The new research data comes from Flurry Analytics, which analyzes mobile apps and their download numbers, to reach a conclusion. In its latest research, the firm used data from over a million apps to estimate the sales of iPhone XS, and compare them with the sales of last year’s iPhone X and iPhone 8. The methodology used by Flurry Analytics looks at what devices run various apps from the App Store, and then extrapolate that data to look at the price.
According to Flurry Analytics, the new data reveals that Apple generated seven percent more revenue from this year’s iPhone lineup than the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X released last year. The bottomline of the analysis is that Apple is able to drive upgrades among consumers despite a huge entry price of $999 (Rs 99,900 in India) for the base model of the iPhone XS.
The company, which already commands the highest margin for smartphones, is successful in driving revenue growth despite the increased price of newer models. With the iPhone XR set to become available on October 19, this revenue uptick should only get better for Apple, since the model is seen to generate a huge upgrade cycle among older iPhone users.
Flurry Analytics notes that iPhone 7 remains the most popular Apple smartphone with 15.4 percent market share while iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 6S are the second and third most popular models with a market share of 12.73 percent and 12.40 percent respectively.
