On the other hand, the iPhone XS Max takes its place as the most premium smartphone in Apple s assortment with a starting price of Rs 1,09,900 for the 64GB base variant. There are two other storage variants of 256GB and 512GB available as well, which are priced at Rs 1,24,900 and Rs 1,44,900 respectively. The iPhone will go on sale through offline and online stores starting September 28.
Display and design
Display is one of the key areas where the most has changed. The iPhone 8 Plus features a 5.5-inch LCD Retina Display, which packs in a conventional full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and pixel density of 401ppi. On the flipside, the iPhone XS Max adopts a notch display like the iPhone X, but comes with a much bigger 6.5-inch OLED screen, which Apple likes to call Super Retina Display. It features a resolution of 2688 x 1242 pixels and pixel density of 458 ppi. Additionally, it also supports HDR.
That said, the notch display and the bezeless design allow the iPhone XS Max to boast similar dimensions as the iPhone 8 Plus. There is also no Home button on new iPhone as well. Both phones however, feature a similar build that carries a fusion of metal and glass. They are also available in same color options of the Silver Black and Gold.
Both iPhones come with a dual camera setup at the back, which features two 12-megapixel sensors sporting a combination of a wide angle and telephoto lens. However, the telephoto lens on iPhone XS Max features a wider aperture of f/2.4 compared to iPhone 8 Plus f/2.8. Additionally, the camera also boasts dual optical image stabilization and smart HDR mode, which are not supported on the iPhone 8 Plus.
The story remains the same at the front as well. Both iPhones feature the same 7-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture for taking selfies, but the one on the iPhone XS Max triumphs because of software related features. The front camera on iPhone XS Max features Smart HDR along with Portrait mode and advanced bokeh modes. It also comes with support for Animoji and Memoji.
Hardware and security
The iPhone 8 Plus comes powered by last year s A11 Bionic chip, while the iPhone XS Max comes loaded with the newly introduced A12 Bionic chip. While both chipsets are said to be powerful, the latter takes its place as the first processor from Apple to be based on an 7nm fabrication process. It also carries an upgraded 8-core Neural Engine, which enables machine learning applications to run 9 times faster than the predecessor. Overall, the new chipset is also touted to launch apps 30 percent faster.
In terms of security, the iPhone 8 Plus comes with a Home button, which also acts like a fingerprint sensor. This can be used to unlock the device as well as authenticate online payments. The iPhone XS Max doesn t have a fingerprint sensor but comes with Apple s Face ID technology that can be used for the same purpose.

While the iPhone XS Max is said to run on iOS 12 out-of-box on release, the iPhone 8 Plus is said to get the OS update on September 17.
