Being the successor to the iPhone X, the iPhone XS comes with the same 5.8-inch OLED Retina display, which packs in a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels and a pixel density of 458 ppi. It s an HDR display and also features support for 3D Touch. The screen on the iPhone XS Max carries the same features as the one on the iPhone XS, but only flaunts a much bigger 6.5-inch size, with a higher resolution of 2688 x 1242 pixels. It is the biggest screen seen on an iPhone yet.
With the iPhone XR, Apple has designed a new kind of an LCD screen, which it is likes to call the Liquid Retina Display. The screen here measures 6.1 inches diagonally and comes with a resolution of 1792 x 828 pixels and pixel density of 326 ppi. While it is a true tone display like the other two iPhones, it does not support HDR or 3D Touch.
Essentially, iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max feature the same design and build as the iPhone X. They carry a seamless blend of stainless steel with what Apple likes to call the most durable glass coating on a smartphone. The only difference is the introduction of a new premium Gold color that joins the Silver and Black options. Apple also states the phones to carry an ingress rating of IP68, which makes them water and dust proof.
The iPhone XR on the other hand, seems to be a mix of an iPhone X at the front and the iPhone 8 at the back. While it features a similar notched screen, it comes with a aluminum back with the glass coating for wireless charging. However, to give the phone a unique identity, Apple has designed it in six fancy colors of Black, White, Red, Yellow, Blue and Coral. The phone only features IP67 ingress rating.
In the photography department, both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max get dual rear camera setup, that features two 12-megapixel sensors working alongside each other. The two sensors individually carry both a wide-angle lens and telephoto lens with apertures of f/1.8 and f/2.4 respectively. Thanks to that, the iPhones also supports 2X optical zoom. Additionally, the cameras also come with zero shutter lag feature and smart HDR mode. Compared to that, the iPhone XR only comes with a single 12-megapixel sensor at the back, with an aperture of f/1.8.
On the flipside, all the three iPhones come with the same 7-megapixel sensor at the front that comes with f/2.2 aperture and Retina Flash. It also carries support for smart HDR along with Animoji and Memoji.
Hardware, Connectivity and OS
Internally, all three iPhones are more or less the same. They all come powered with Apple s new A12 Bionic chipset that is built on 7nm fabrication process and is said to open apps 30 percent faster. All the three iPhones also come with the Face ID technology for face authentication and quick unlocking of the phone. While Apple hasn t mentioned a battery capacity, it does state the phones to support fast charging technology, which can charge the phone up to 50 percent in 30 minutes.
