While the Android smartphone segment has long gone the dual-SIM way, it’s finally time for the feature to come to the Apple iPhone. The all-new Apple iPhone XS, XS Max and XR come with dual-SIM connectivity, a feature that will appeal to buyers in global markets such as India, China and other Asian countries. If you’re looking to buy the new iPhones in India, this means that you’ll be able to have both of your mobile connections on a single phone.
However, the dual-SIM connectivity comes with a caveat; it’s likely that India will receive the worldwide variant of the Apple iPhone XS, XS Max and XR which comes with a single regular SIM tray, and a second eSIM built into the phone. This will mean that you will only be able to use the dual-SIM feature with operators that support eSIM activation. Apple, during the keynote, mentioned Indian mobile operators Airtel, Jio and Vodafone as part of the list of operators supporting eSIM activation. Do note that Vodafone is a global operator and may not support eSIM activation in India.
It’s worth noting that mobile network operators in India do not support eSIM activation fully for the time being, and you still require a physical SIM card for your smartphone. Certain operators such as Airtel and Jio do support eSIM activation for the Apple Watch Series 3 LTE variant, and it remains to be seen if this support will extend to buyers of the new iPhones.

On the other hand, the variants sold in China will come with a physical dual-SIM tray, allowing two regular SIM cards to be used in the phone at the same time. The Apple iPhone Xs and Xs Max go on sale in India on September 28 starting at Rs 99,900 and Rs 1,09,900 respectively, while the Apple iPhone XR goes on sale in India on October 26 priced at Rs 76,900.
