If a report by 9to5Mac is to be believed, then Apple will probably launch a refreshed iPad mini minus the Retina Display, but it will be running on the A6 processor that powers the iPhone 5. Reportedly, references in the iOS 7 SDK suggest this. Actually, there is a string that reveals all the supported devices. According to the iOS 7 SDK reference, Apple will have two different cellular models and a Wi-Fi only model just like the current model. There is a reference regarding s5l8950x which is the codename of the Apple A6 processor. However, like on the Apple’s Retina Display products, the iPad and the iPhone, there is no reference regarding a @2x mode which gives indications to the developers to build app artwork.
Of course all this is not confirmed, but there have been reports suggesting that Apple could launch a iPad mini with a Retina Display in the first half of 2014, so Apple could be gearing up for a minor refresh later this year, in the process holding the market, before the big band in the first half of 2014.
However, contrary to the hints in iOS 7, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple is buying Retina Displays from Samsung for its next-gen iPad mini.
