While it hasn t been long since Apple launched the two new iPhones iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus the company may have already started working on its successor. According to Chinese publication Feng, the Cupertino-based giant is working on the iPhone 6S, and for that it is interestingly going back to the smaller screen form factor. Sources from supply chain tell the publication that the next version of iPhone will sport a 4-inch display, same as the previous generations of iPhones (5, 5C, and 5S). While the information is quite vague at the moment, the report claims that the 4-inch iPhone 6S could replace the 4-inch iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C that are still available for sale in the market. Many reports from earlier this year claimed that the iPhone 5C will hit its end of line next year. One of the reasons for discontinuing the iPhone 5C is that it is the only iPhone that doesn t have the TouchID sensor, which is essential to the company s Apple Pay feature. If the iPhone 6S does launch sometime next year, and comes with a 4-inch screen, Apple will be able to continue offering iPhones in three different screen sizes 4-inch, 4.7-inch, and 5.5-inch. The report further claims that sapphire glass displays might not be on the cards next year either as Apple s long time partner GT Technologies recently filed for bankruptcy. The company could, however, use Gorilla Glass 4, which Corning announced last month. For the camera, long-time Apple commentator John Gruber has claimed that next-gen iPhones are likely to come with dual-lens camera which can take DSLR-quality photos.
