The next big Apple launch is just two days ahead of us, and some very interesting leaks have now cropped up. All this while, we have known the next anniversary edition iPhone to be called the iPhone 8, but looks like the rumours gave us only a part of the information about the nomenclature. As it turns out, (something what we have hear a few days ago too), what we thought was the iPhone 8 will reportedly be called iPhone X. That does make sense though considering it is the tenth anniversary edition iPhone. But that’s not it, the other two iPhones, which we have been calling the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus, will apparently be names iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

This new nomenclature was spotted by 9to5Mac in a leaked iOS 11 firmware. According to the findings, the three new iPhones expected at the event on September 12 will be called the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. iOS developer Steven Troughton-Smith says that he found the mentions of the iPhone X in the next version of Apple’s software. The iOS firmware also mentions a phone under the codename D22, which is expected to be an expensive and bezel-less handset. This, by far has been the strongest leak that proves that Apple is actually working on a special edition iPhone to mark its 10th Anniversary.

Troughton-Smith has also found separate mentions for the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in the final iOS 11 firmware, suggesting that Apple isn’t planning to use its tradition ‘S’ branding, and will instead launch the iPhone 8 duo. In terms of specifications, the iPhone X is to be a premium version with an all-new design, OLED screen, improved cameras, and a 3D facial recognition scanner for unlocking the device. Talking about OLED screen, rumors have it that the shipments of the iPhone X might also get delayed due to OLED shortages. Apple is apparently in an urgent need to find another display supplier besides Samsung.

Earlier reports suggest that the premium ‘X’ device will replace the Touch ID fingerprint scanner with a face unlock feature. Apple will call the enhancement Face ID. The sensor is said to be used for scanning a person’s facial expression and converting it into animated emojis for messaging. Apart from that, reports also hint that the smartphone will lack a home button and instead use a series of gestures for controlling the device. Besides, the presence of iPhone X was once more stressed upon in a separate leak, where Dutch telecom provider KPN revealed a retail box of the upcoming phone. The box has iPhone X written on it.

Another famous leakster Evan Blass has revealed that the iPhone X will be up for pre-orders starting September 15, while the device will start shipping September 22. Leaks also suggest that the iPhone X will be priced $1,000, which translates to Rs 63,900. However, we can only confirm the price and specifications at the September 12 event. Stay tuned.
