Apple is likely to launch an updated version of its MacBook Air lineup later this year . The possibility of that to happen is strong since the company has already launched the updated 2018 variants of its MacBook Pro lineup about half a month back. Another reason is to consider that a refreshed MacBook Air is a possibility is because of previous updates by analysts where they claim that Apple is planning to launch new versions of the Mac Mini, iMac, MacBook, and Apple Watch along with the Apple iPhone. According to a report by MacRumors, the company is planning to launch comparatively cheaper version of the MacBook Air with 13-inch Retina display. The report points out that Apple is likely to price the notebook below the $1,000 market. It is unclear if the company will name it as the MacBook or the MacBook Air but regardless of the name, the company is planning to introduce a new lower-cost, lower-spec alternative if any user is not interested in buying the MacBook Pro. This new model is likely to be powered by eighth generation Intel Kaby Lake Refresh processors. Intel launched its Kaby Lake Refresh processors that are based on the 14nm manufacturing process back in the second half of 2017 which is almost about a year old now. According to the report, this information was first spotted in a report by Economic Daily News, a Taiwanese publication. According to the report, the reason for Apple to use these processors is because of the delay in Intel s 10nm manufacturing process, Cannon Lake processors. According to the latest information by Intel, these processors will not be launched until the end of 2019 .

As pointed by the report, Kaby Lake Refresh processors include quad-core Core i5 and i7 processors with base clock speed starting from 1.6GHz and .9GHz respectively with Turbo Boost helping the processors to go up to 3.4GHz and 4.2GHz. The processor will come with Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU.

Looking at the specifications, MacBook Air with Kaby Lake Refresh will be a significantly faster than the fifth generation equipped MacBook Air devices. One thing to note here is that Intel is planning to launch its Whisky Lake processors in the second half of 2018 but these new processors may not be ready to be included in the MacBook Air at launch.
