Apple’s 2018 MacBook Air refresh has been listed on Geekbench with performance scores similar to base model of 12-inch MacBook. Earlier this week, Apple launched the 2018 MacBook Air in New York, and mentioned that new MacBook Air carry 8th generation dual-core Intel i5 processor clocked at 1.6GHz.
If the alleged screenshots by Geekbench are legitimate, then the new MacBook Air packs Intel’s new Core i5-8210Y chip, and scores a 4,248 in single-core, 7,828 in multi-core testing. The performance roughly matches up to single-core performance of 2017 12-inch MacBook’s base variant with Core i5 clocked at 1.4GHz, although multi-core performance lags by a margin. The 12-inch MacBook models at present rely on 7th generation Core i5 and i7 Kaby Lake technology. Latest MacBook Air’s i5 is an Amber Lake chip, which is built on same 14-nanometer process as the Kaby Lake.
If we compare the new GeekBench scores of 2018 MacBook Air with mid-2017 MacBook Air, the new machines are roughly 27 percent faster in single-core, and 28 percent faster in multi-core performance. Similarly, the comparison scores of new MacBook Air with mid-2017 MacBook Pro without the ‘Touch Bar’ reveal roughly the same performance in single-core with a 4,314 score, although multi-core performance of the Pro model is 16 percent faster than new Air (via 9to5Mac).
MacBook Air (2018) Specifications
The highlight of the new MacBook Air is the 8th generation dual-core Intel i5 that is clocked at 1.6GHz. The processor can turbo up to 3.5GHz while packing up to 16GB RAM, and up to 1.5TB SSD storage. The base model will come with 128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM. Apple has improved the new MacBook Air to make it more portable by making it 17 percent less in volume as compared to the previous model. The device is 15.6mm in thickness and weighs about 2.75 pounds.

The notebook comes with 13.3-inch Retina Display with four times the amount of pixels when compared to the older version with a total of 4-million pixels. The device will also come with Touch ID that is embedded in the keyboard. To maintain the security of the device, the device will come with the T2 security chip which also controls the SSD of the device.
