Apple s Mac OS X which was once deemed invulnerable to hackers has finally fallen to these faceless predators in what is being described as the biggest attack on an American corporate. According to a report on Reuters computers of some Apple employees were infected when they visited a website for software developers, which contained malicious software designed specifically to attack Mac computers. The malware was also employed in attacks against Mac computers used by “other companies,” Apple said, without elaborating on the scale of the assault. Also Read - Karnataka Police website hacked
Earlier Windows PCs used to be a target for hackers because of the large share of the market they had and also because of the security flaws in the OS. But in recent times Mac has seen an increase in its market share as developers have adopted this platform to build apps for mobile platforms like Android and iOS. The hackers exploited a flaw in the latest version of Java installed in the web browsers of the infected computers. Despite the attack, Apple said in a statement, No data was obtained by the hackers and the company is working closely with law enforcement to find “the source of the malware.”
This attack follows a string of attacks on American companies in recent times like Facebook which announced that it was recently attacked though no data was compromised and Twitter where more than 250K user accounts were hacked into in an attack.
