To put these numbers into perspective, Apple Music s closest rival, Spotify, has over 20 million paid subscribers at last count. When you take into account Spotify s ad-supported free service, there are more than 55 million users on the platform. This is impressive since unlike Apple Music, Spotify is only available in a few countries. That said, Apple has taken only six months to reach this milestone, while Spotify took nearly six years.

Apple s music streaming service was launched alongside iOS 9 and boasts over 30 million songs, including Bollywood and regional songs. CEO Tim Cook has been raving about the service, and at WSJD 2015 he said, I m finding personally that I m discovering a whole lot of music that I wasn t listening to before.

The service is available for new users with a three month free trial, post which one will need to pay Rs 120 per month for individual accounts, and Rs 190 per month for a family account (for up to six members). Towards the end of last year, Apple also debuted an Android version of the music app on the Google Play Store, which will only help in increasing the user base.
