Apple now sells smart toothbrush from Colgate

Apple is selling a smart toothbrush as it continues to push into health segment.

Colgate E1, the smart electric toothbrush will be available exclusively from Apple. Colgate and Apple are teaming to sell former’s high-tech toothbrush and will be available for purchase only from Apple’s website and at select Apple stores.

Apple is known for selling accessories like Bluetooth headphones, wireless chargers, health accessories and even drones at its retail store. But this is the first time the Cupertino-based company is selling smart toothbrush. In terms of features, the Colgate E1 gives its users real-time brushing feedback by mapping your mouth and removes plaque by using sonic vibrations.

Colgate E1 uploads data collected by it to an iPhone app called Colgate Connect. The handle of the toothbrush is equipped with artificial intelligence and it can coach its users on their oral health over time.

Colgate has even developed a game within its iPhone app called ‘Go Pirate’ to encourage kids about brushing. The game uses the toothbrush as game controller and the longer you brush, the more coins you will collect. The E1 is priced at $99.95 (around Rs 6,400) and Colgate claims the battery will last 10 days on a single charge.

Apple selling smart toothbrush should not come as a surprise considering the company has been pushing into the health space big time in the past year. It also sells products like smart scales, LED jump ropes, golf swing analyzers and even glucose monitors via its online store.

Apple Watch, one of the best-selling smartwatch globally, is widely seen as the go to fitness devices with Apple rumored to be developing a way to measure blood sugar level. The Watch is being seen as a primary device to measure vitals of human body and ensure predictive and timely analysis.
