The first iOS 11.4 beta is now available to developers for download through the Apple Developer Center as well as via an over-the-air update. Readers must note that the beta is rolling out only for those enrolled into the beta program. Now that Apple has released the developer beta, a public beta should follow suit. In the past, Apple has released the public beta of new iOS versions a few days after the release of developer beta and it could arrive as early as later in the day. Apple first mentioned iOS 11.4 being in works during its ‘Apple Education event’ in Chicago last week where it revealed new tools and education software. During the Field Trip event, Apple noted that ClassKit, its framework that allows developers to link their apps to the upcoming Schoolwork app, will be available as part of iOS 11.4. The beta released today for developers should bring support for ClassKit as Apple pushed further into the education market dominated by Google.
The update is also expected to bring support for AirPlay 2, which was initially expected to arrive with the release of iOS 11.3. The updated AirPlay protocol for communication with other Apple devices was spotted on early iOS 11.3 beta release but the company dropped it with the third developer beta release and the feature didn’t appear in the final release as well. In the case of iOS 11.3, Apple pre-announced all the new features coming to its mobile operating system but it has not shared any such information for the release of iOS 11.4.
