Apple releases OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 software update, fixes the annoying Wi-Fi drop issue

Alongside the iOS 8.1.3 software update, Apple also released OS X Yosemite 10.10.2, the second update to the desktop operating system since its release in October. The update addresses the issues with Wi-Fi, VoiceOver, Mail, and audio and video sync while using Bluetooth headphones among other things.   • Resolves an issue that may cause Wi-Fi to disconnect
  • Resolves an issue that may cause web pages to load slowly
  • Fixes an issue that caused Spotlight to load remote email content when the preference was disabled in Mail
  • Improves audio and video sync when using Bluetooth headphones
  • Adds the ability to browse iCloud Drive in Time Machine
  • Improves VoiceOver speech performance
  • Resolves an issue that causes VoiceOver to echo characters when entering text on a web page
  • Addresses an issue that may cause the input method to switch languages unexpectedly
  • Improves stability and security in Safari

The Wi-Fi issue was one of the most echoed bugs among users, wherein people claimed that their computer would disconnect from the Wi-Fi for no apparent reason. The update claims to patch the said bug. Additionally, it also provides improvements to Safari to load the web pages a little faster. Safari has been updated to version 8.0.3. Users will now also be able to browse for files in iCloud Drive in Time Machine.

In addition, the update also patches a bunch of security flaws, including an issue in Spotlight which would load remote email content even when the Mail preference was disabled. Notably, Apple has also fixed the vulnerabilities detected by Google s Project Zero from earlier this month.

The company also announced the OS X 10.10.2 update for enterprise content. It offers the following improvements:

  • Improves performance for browsing DFS shares in the Finder
  • Fixes an issue where certain Calendar invitations could be displayed at the incorrect time
  • Fixes an issue for Microsoft Exchange accounts where the organizer of a meeting might not be notified when someone accepts an invitation using Calendar
  • Addresses an issue where Safari could continually prompt for credentials when accessing a site protected by NTLM authentication
  • Adds the ability to set Out of Office reply dates for Microsoft Exchange accounts in Mail
