Apple’s App Store is soon to touch the 50 billion download mark and the iPhone maker has posted a countdown to award a $10,000 App Store Gift Card to the person who downloads the 50 billionth app. Apple will also give away a $500 App Store Gift Card each to the next 50 customers downloading apps following the lucky winner.
Few days back we reported on Apple touching the 45 billion of app download mark, and with this countdown, the Cupertino brand has almost added close to 5 billion more downloads. The App Store was launched in 2008 and has been gaining year-on-year popularity ever since its inception. Almost a year later, Apple had achieved the 1 billion app downloads in April 2009, and the 10 billionth app download in January 2011. The company has registered almost doubled the app downloads this year, from the 25 billion downloads mark achieved in February 2012.
Apple has also put a few conditions like the participants have to be above the minimum age required for downloading app in their respective country and can not download more than 25 apps in a day.
This apart Apple has announced the top free and paid apps on iTunes App Store which include WhatsApp Messenger and Angry Birds as the top two paid apps, and Facebook and Skype as the most popular free apps.
