The iconic Apple Stores may soon be seen at Croma s stores. Apple will be given around 400-500 square feet of space at Croma stores, and the overall look and design will be reminiscent of Apple Stores around the world. It will also include staff who have been trained by the company. According to earlier reports, the stores could showcase 10-15 demo devices, of which Apple would bear 50 percent of the cost. Such stores will come up in time for the Diwali festive season, and as a pilot project will be limited to Croma stores in Malad, Juhu, Oberoi Mall, Phoenix Mall and Ghatkopar, as well as Jayanagar in Bangalore, ET reports.
“We are proud to partner Apple to launch the Apple Store in India and extremely bullish about it,” Avijit Mitra, CEO of Infiniti Retail, which owns Croma, told the publication. “These stores will be modeled on the global design and will offer the best experience to consumers, showcasing the entire range of Apple products.”
Apple s plans for a retail presence have been in the open since last year. BGR India exclusively reported about Apple s plans to set up stores to sell iPhones and iPads in the country. Subsequent reports have then claimed that Apple plans on setting up as many as 500 such stores as it works on boosting its retail presence in the country.
Apple has been lobbying for the Indian government to relax its policies for FDI in single-brand retail. CEO Tim Cook is said to have talked to PM Narendra Modi about easing the policies in the country. The Cupertino-based company has increased its focus on India, and it is launching its new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus just three weeks after their unveiling in the US. Furthermore, the company is also said to be planning on launching the Apple Watch in time for Diwali.
