Apple has another legal battle in its hands, this time against Singapore’s Asahi Chemical and Solder Industries PTE Ltd. The company has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against in Ohio, which accuses the iPhone maker of infringing on its patents related to lead-free solder. The lawsuit alleges that Apple used the lead-free solder technique in the last five iPhone models and other Apple devices. The suit particularly mentions the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X. While the Singapore-based firm has not confirmed the amount of money it plans to seek in damage, it has requested for a jury trial. The key requests being that any damage awarded by the jury be tripled and the company even wants Apple to bear the cost of this legal trial. Asahi alleges that Apple infringed on a patent that was awarded to the firm in 2001. The patent covers “solder alloys with improved physical and chemical properties that comprise effective amounts of tin, copper, silver, and bismuth.” The court filing notes that the inventors at Asahi came up with the lead-free solder since the “traditional lead-tin solder alloys face[d] a limited future due to lead toxicity and the control or prohibition of the use of lead on a global landscape.”

Singapore’s Asahi Chemical and Solder Industries PTE Ltd has filed the suit with the US District Court in Ohio because the rights to the patents has been signed over to H-Technologies Group, Inc. is based in that state. In Ohio, Apple has four retail stores. Apple is not new to the world of lawsuits and has multiple court proceedings on at this moment.

The Cupertino-based iPhone maker settled its long running lawsuit against Samsung over infringement of design last month. It is also fighting with mobile chip maker Qualcomm over patent abuse where it has claimed that San Diego-based company is overcharging for license of its patents. With this new suit from Singapore’s Asahi, Apple now has three lawsuits related to its mobile devices.

Apple is also facing lawsuit from SMTM Technology for its Do Not Disturb While Driving feature while another company named Advanced Voice Recognition Systems, Inc. (AVRS) has sued the company over Siri’s internet access. Apple has not commented on any of these lawsuits but considering Apple’s approach in the past, we might never know where these lawsuits are headed.
