As Apple approaches its sale date for the iPhone X, news concerning the limited supply has only increased. Even before its launch, it was reported that Apple would face shipping delays for the iPhone X owing to the limited supply of certain components. The latest update comes from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who predicts that only 2 to 3 million units of the iPhone X will be shipped for its first sale. According to the report (via 9to5Mac) by Kuo, Apple is facing supply shortages for more components of the iPhone X. These include circuit boards, antennae, and wide-angle camera sensors, in addition to the depth-sensing infrared dot projector. The iPhone X boasts a lot of firsts for Apple with a radical bezel-less and edge-to-edge display design. Similarly, many components are also “redesigned” leading to supply shortages. Kuo further highlights that Apple’s biggest obstacle in shipping the iPhone X will be the circuit board for the antenna system which requires specific processes and tests to be done before production.

Apple is said to have lost its original antenna PCB supplier Murata, who failed to meet demands. Currently, another supplier is reportedly manufacturing all the antenna PCBs for the initial months. Delving further into it, Kuo says that since two separate antenna boards are used in the iPhone X’s wide-angle and telephoto lenses, the supplies haven’t been successful so far. With the launch slated for November, pre-orders for the iPhone X will begin on October 27. An earlier report stated that Foxconn started shipping the first batch of iPhone X units to UAE and Europe. The first batch included a total of 46,500 units of the iPhone X which are comparatively low to previous year’s shipments. With many speculations suggesting shipping delays for the iPhone X, a widely accepted prediction is 40 million units of the iPhone X by 2017-end. Apple is expected to achieve a balance of supply and demand by early 2018. RELATED: Apple iPhone X first batch shipped by Foxconn: Report
