Apple’s wearable offering, the Apple Watch has gathered praise over the last couple of years for saving the lives of its users by informing them about serious health conditions before anything serious could happen. We previously reported a case where the wearable informed a user about an impending heart attack and instructed him to go to the doctor for a check-up. Similar to this, according to a new report, the watch informed its 24-year old user about a serious heart condition before it could get serious. According to a report by 9News Australia, Apple Watch warned Adam Love that there was something wrong with his heart.

The watch stated that Love’s heart was averaging around 130-140 beats per minute despite regular rests of about six hours. For perspective, this is a far cry from the regular around 60 beats per minute that one can expect from a healthy individual. On visiting the doctors, it was confirmed that Love had a hole in his heart since birth that this situation was not diagnosed. The report went on to point that his upper lung was also pumping blood into the wrong atrium section, to the right instead of the usual left side of his heart. This caused his blood to “needlessly circulate around the lung” and it did not get out to the rest of the body.

This report was initially spotted by PhoneArena which went on to point that to correct the problem, Love’s doctor went off script using the DaVinci 3D robot to make the repairs on the heart after making a small incision. This helped cut down the recovery time from 12 months to 3 weeks.

Love issued a statement adding, “I don’t think I’d live without one now. I love it for the convenience but also the fact it just picked up something medically that I had no idea about and it potentially saved my life.”
