When a company showcases a new product, consciously or unconsciously, it tends to slightly oversell it, because well, they really want you to buy it. When Apple Watch was released for the first time, Apple really stressed on how the product is aimed at keeping you safe and healthy. And by design or not, the Apple Watch has really been meeting its introductions. After we came across a number of instances where the Watch alerted a wearer to potential heart problems with its heart-rate monitoring features, the device has now apparently saved two lives. According to a report by Shape, Apple Watch’s SOS feature saved the life of a woman and her baby, after they were in a car accident. Kacie Anderson, a 24-year-old from Hannover, PA, reportedly used the watch’s SOS feature to call for an ambulance after suffering injuries from a car accident late last year. Anderson shared the incident in a letter to Apple recently. She reveals that she was stopped at a red light with her 9-month-old baby when her car was struck by a drunk driver. She wasn’t able to reach her phone after the collision, however, she she was able to use her watch to get help. Also Read - Apple to stop charging App Store fees from Facebook till 31 December

“The moment he hit us everything inside the car went airborne. My face took a horrible blow to the steering wheel, headrest, back to the steering wheel, and then to the window. I blacked out for about a minute and could not see. My eyes were wide open but all I saw was black,” Anderson told Shape. “My hands flew around to feel for my phone and then I realized I had my watch on and commanded it to call 911.”

The watch’s SOS feature allows users to call emergency numbers directly from the device, as long as the user’s phone is turned on and nearby. Users can either press and hold the side button on the watch and wait for an alert to sound, or drag a slider on the watch’s screen to have the Apple Watch automatically connect to the emergency number. With the Apple Watch Series 3, on the other hand, with built-in cellular users can use a cellular connection to make an SOS call even if your phone is turned off or not with you.

Anderson told the publication that in the two years that she had been wearing the watch, she never had to use the SOS feature, but she credits it for “saving” her and her son. “I feel so blessed that I had my Apple Watch on.”
