Even as we are weeks away from Apple s developer conference WWDC 2017, new details have continued to pour in. The latest though is a prediction from KGI Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo about his expectations from the event. According to the analyst, the developer conference will focus on hardware as well as software. One of the highlights of his predictions is the launch of a 10.5-inch iPad. Even though Apple doesn t focus on new devices during WWDC, but an iPad with 10.5-inch display is considered as a logical upgrade to the existing lineup. The device perhaps will come with some radical improvements such as ultra slim screen bezels. Apple might want to use the developer conference as the platform to stir some buzz around its highly awaited new devices, especially iPhones. Moreover, iPad sales have taken a big jolt of late, thus a radically improved iPad could help Apple give the push it had been seeking for. According to the analyst, the new iPad will enter production later in June, which will be in time for WWDC unveiling. Interestingly, this is not the first time we have heard about the 10.5-inch iPad. Earlier this month a screenshot of Urban Armor Gear s cases for the iPad Pro was spotted online. The screenshot further hinted at 10.5-inch cases, which were slated to release in June.
The newly designed 10.5-inch iPad Pro will have a similar form factor to the 9.7-inch model, but will feature a larger display thanks to narrow bezels. The new design should improve the user experience and help gain traction in the corporate and commercial sectors. We forecast 10.5-inch iPad shipments of 5.0-6.0mn units in 2017F, accounting for 15 percent of total 2017F
Besides the new iPad, Apple will also unveil its new Siri-powered home speaker that will compete with Amazon Echo and Google Home. In our April 28 Insight report ( Apple s first home AI product to see cyclical shipments of over 10mn units; main competitor is Amazon Echo ), we offered estimates for the new home AI/ Siri speaker line. We also believe this new product will come with a touch panel, he said in the detailed report. ALSO READ: Apple Siri speaker, Amazon Echo, and Google Home competitor to debut at WWDC 2017: Report
According to Kuo, the Siri speaker will come with a touch panel display, though this bit of detail has been sketchy. So far none of the rumors have talked about a touch panel display. But based on what Phil Schiller said recently, the device could indeed have a display. Schiller had opined that smart speaker products would work better with a screen.
