Japanese blog Macotakara claims that the 4-inch iPhone will essentially be a slightly improved version of the iPhone 5S. Citing sources, the publication claims that while the internals are more in line with the iPhone 5S, it will look more like the sixth-generation iPod touch. It could feature an A8 chipset, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, and a FaceTime HD f/2.2 camera. This is a far cry from the A10 chipset, and 3D Touch display that is expected on the next-generation iPhone 7. Macotakara has a good track record when it comes to Apple leaks, and these details are also in line with claims by KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Kuo also claimed that Apple has roped in Foxconn to be the sole manufacturer of the 4-inch iPhone and expects to ship 20 to 30 million iPhones by the end of next year. As per Kuo Apple is likely to launch the iPhone sometime in the first half of 2016, a claim reiterated by Kevin Wang from Analytics company ISH.
