All the reports surrounding the OnePlus drone are true, well not really. The company has been teasing its new product launch since a few weeks, and the much talked-about drone is nothing but a tiny little quadcopter. While the product launch is a real deal, it isn’t what we really expected, courtesy April Fools’ Day.
As promised, OnePlus has launched the DR-1 — a 70mm wingspan little drone — a toy drone if you may — with a price tag $19.99 (Rs 1,250 approximately). The company claims that the DR-1 is the smallest drone in the world and comes with a remote that lets you fly it around seamlessly. The battery takes about 20 minutes to fully charge and gives you 5-8 minutes of flight time. Keep in mind, it’s just a toy.
The use case scenario of the DR-1? To have a gala time with your buddies! OnePlus says that the drone makes for great flight-racing and trying different antics with your friends. Sigh, real funny.
In any case, the drone – toy or not – is real and even has a price tag attached to it. The company is giving away a free quadcopter to Indian users as well. They’ve launched a simple Facebook contest, where users have to fill a form, and tag two more friends intimating them about the offer. The deadline for this contest is April 3, and you can find more details here.
Many tech companies are indulging in such elaborate pranks today. Google is following its age-old tradition and has launched something called as personal assistant Google Panda at a fake press conference. If you head over to Google Maps, the platform has transformed into a Pac-Man game eating up the streets. Samsung has also unveiled the Galaxy Blade Edge, which apparently transforms the Galaxy Edge into a smart knife. Also, check out how Uber is helping folks in pranking their crazy car loving friends!
It is going to be a fun filled April Fools’ Day. Thanks for the entertainment guys!
