Armani ‘Connected’ smartwatch with touchscreen, Android Wear 2.0 launched at Milan Fashion Week

The Emporio Armani Connected smartwatch is the first touch-screen wearable under the brand.

With smartwatches becoming popular worldwide, the traditional watch companies are also looking to join the bandwagon.  The latest to join in the smartwatch craze is Armani, which has launched an all new touchscreen smartwatch ‘Connected’ under the Emporio Armani sub-brand. Though there are already a host of smartwatches under the Emporio brand though all of them have been hybrid. The Connected will be first ever smartwatch from Armani to have a full touchscreen.

The smartwatch was unveiled during the Milan Fashion Week. With an objective to bring the world of fashion and technology together, the smartwatch does retain some of the main features from previous Armani branded watches, while a few things are new. The device is expected to go up for sale later this year, on September 24. However, it is unclear if the Connected touchscreen smartwatch will make its way to India and what will be the price of the device. Along with the Connected touchscreen smartwatch, Armani will also launch multiple other hybrid smartwatches in September. Coming to the specifications of the Connected smartwatch, the device runs Android Wear 2.0. The watch comes with a circular AMOLED display, and is compatible with both, Android and iOS devices. A Snapdragon 2100 chipset powers the device. Connected smartwatch comes with the same strap-change features as the company’s previous hybrid smartwatch models. Additionally, the watch will also have customizable watch faces to match the look. There are a total of 8 interchangeable straps Armani offers for the Connected smartwatch. Other specifications are yet to be revealed by the brand.

The Connected smartwatch is said to perform all functions of the standard smartwatch, like syncing with the smartphone to track notifications, activity tracking, and others. The watch also comes with Google Assistant preloaded. The first demo of the smartwatch was given by singer Shawn Mendes, towards the end of the Milan Fashion Week. Considering the present range of Armani smartwatches is priced between $200 and $375 (between Rs 13,000 and Rs 25,000), the new smartwatch will most likely be priced higher and will be a part of the premium segment devices.

Apart from Connected, the Fossil Group, which is the parent brand of the company plans to launch 300 new smartwatches in the period of one year. Connected is the first smartwatch as part of the plan. There have been no hints given regarding the price range or the launch timeline of the 300 smartwatches. But these watches are expected to cater to every budget. The devices will be launched under all of Fossil Group brands like Misfit, Emporio Armani, Diesel, Skagen, and Fossil itself.
