Reliance Jio latest services have been a rage and has taken over India. Recently Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal mockingly called Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “Mr Reliance” after his photo appeared in the company’s advertisements and accused him of “openly endorsing” its latest Jio services. Kejriwal’s caustic jibe at Modi, including an advice to him to “keep modelling for Reliance”, came on a day the Mukesh Ambandi-led group splashed advertisements featuring the face of the Prime Minister across newspapers. “Modiji you keep modelling for Reliance ads. Labourers across the country will teach you a lesson in 2019. PM as Mr Reliance. Any more proof required to prove that Modiji is in Ambani’s pockets. Reliance, through its ads, dedicated the Jio 4G service to the Modi government’s flagship Digital India project. During its launch yesterday, Ambani had said “Jio will fulfil Digital India dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi“. He had also called Jio a “revolutionary” step to realize India’s digital ambitions. Reliance conducted the 42nd Annual General Meeting where it announced variety of offers for users. These announcements can start a data tariff war between Reliance Jio and other telecom operators. However according to analysts, Reliance Jio will need to garner 75-80 million subscribers, who spend an average of Rs 180 a month on mobile bills, over the next 2-3 years to hit break- even. The company’s telecom arm has also announced free lifetime voice calls and roaming services for its users along with data charges at about one-tenth of the prevailing rates.
Under Jio, this average customer gets unlimited free voice, and 50 percent more data for 25 percent lower monthly spend. There are other incentives as well, especially for higher-end users and students. Reliance Jio is also deploying Wi-Fi hotspots at key locations nationwide and Jio customers will have access to them, besides free access to all of Jio’s content library, including live and stored TV, movies, songs, magazines and newspapers till December 31, 2017.
