The Asphalt Street Storm Racing drag racing game, which was announced by Gameloft, is now available for download. The game is the first-ever drag racing game from Asphalt series. The game takes on NaturalMotion’s CSR Racing which is presently the only one offering drag racing to mobile gamers. The Asphalt Street Storm Racing resembles CSR in features and also in functionality. The game focuses entirely on drag racing, and gives players an option to choose from a range of supercars.
The users, once they have chosen a car, can drag race it across the top cities. The players have the option to choose between classic cars or turbo supercars. Gameloft even ran a promotion on its Facebook page, asking users to guess the Ferrari supercars that will be a part of the game, giving them a chance to win 1/18 scale size models of the same. There are no special power-ups or any steering hacks. Players will race with other cars in a straight line.
As described by Gameloft, “Street Storm creates a new niche focused on skill-based competition built on an easy to learn ‘tap-to-shift’ racing mechanic with high stakes, live PvP action.” While most drag race games focus on just two players, the one difference Gameloft adds is the ability to challenge other players. There are options where players can compete in 4-player drag games. Gameloft has also added betting on players to make the game more interesting. Players can bet with virtual money in both, the single-player and multi-player modes. Though the app is free for download over iOS and Android, there are in-app purchases. The virtual currency for betting can be purchased in-app. Also, users need to constantly stay connected to the internet while playing the game. The game comes with multiple in-app pop up advertisements after every race.
The recently concluded E3 2017 saw a host of game launches, across different categories. While the augmented reality gaming has been one of the fastest growing and the most popular areas, there were other games announced too, for gaming enthusiasts,. Gameloft has a wide range of games for different gaming enthusiasts but drag racing is the first under the banner. Gameloft has tried bringing some changes from competitors to the drag game platform and is experimenting with the likes of betting and multi-player format. As per Gameloft, Asphalt Street Storm Racing features ‘cool 3D visuals and natural light simulator as well as console-level HD graphics’.
