Of late we have seen quite a bit of Tizen. Sure, we have been impressed with its capabilities, but the problem was building a developer and OEMs ecosystem. If a DigiTimes report is to believed then the love child of Intel’s MeeGo and Samsung’s Bada might have crossed one hurdle. Apparently, HTC, Acer and Asus are making Tizen based devices that include smartphones and netbooks and these devices could ship as soon as Q3 of 2012.
This is not very surprising as previously Asus showcased MeeGo based netbooks last year at Computex and this could me more of an iteration. And HTC could probably look at Tizen for affordable, low-cost smartphones.
That said, one cannot help being wary of this new considering the track record of DigiTimes has been less than stellar, with it often getting stories wrong. Regardless, one thing is for sure, Tizen is quietly growing in stature and impressing many people in the industry. But will it succeed? That’s a different thing all together.
