Asus has quietly announced a new rugged laptop with a flippable display to its Chromebook lineup. Called Chromebook Flip C213, the convertible features a 360-degree hinge that allows it to be transformed into a tablet or a laptop as per user requirement. Asus claims the Chromebook Flip C213 has been put through military-grade durability tests to make it rugged for the education sector.
Being a Chromebook, the Flip C213 is powered by Google’s Chrome OS and is pre-loaded with a range of Google apps and services including G Suite, Google Classroom and the Google Cloud Platform. Currently, there is no official word on the pricing and availability of the rugged laptop.

The Chromebook Flip C213 features a rubber bumper that protects the chassis from accidental drops. Asus has subjected the laptop to tests which included dropping it from 1.2meters and putting its all-metal 360-degree hinge to 40,000 open-and-close cycles. The Chromebook further features a modular construction, allowing the user to easily change components such as keyboard, touchpad, motherboard or display panel in a few steps. In terms of specifications, the Asus Chromebook Flip C213 is equipped with an 11.6-inch touchscreen display. There are two variants of the convertible laptop based on the display. One variant features Corning Gorilla Glass on top for protection, while the other supports an optional stylus which uses Wacom EMR technology and has an anti-glare finish for a comfortable user experience.
For online sessions over video calls, the Chromebook Flip C213 is equipped with a 5-megapixel rear camera and an HD front camera. It is fuelled by a 46Wh battery which is claimed to last up to 12 hours of continuous usage.
