We reported earlier that Asus will update its entire Zenfone series to Android Lollipop next year. According to Focus Taiwan, the company will unveil its second-generation Zenfones at CES 2015 in January. Jerry Shen confirmed that all the models that are going to be showcased at CES will be powered by Intel processors. All of the new phones scheduled for release at the annual trade show will be powered by Intel Corp. chips and will support 4G LTE connectivity. LTE-enabled phones will account for about 30 percent-40 percent of Asustek’s total smartphone shipments in 2015, Shen said. Shen further revealed in the report that the company plans to introduce the successors of Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5, and Zenfone 6 with two of the biggest Chinese carriers China Mobile Ltd and China Telecom Corp, while the other models will be designed for the global markets.
Shen also mentioned that Asus is looking for a second chipmaker, apart from Intel, in order to make affordable smartphones, priced at as low as NTD 4,990 (Rs 10,000 approximately). He said the one’s powered by Intel chipsets and supporting 4G LTE will start at NTD 9,990 (Rs 20,200 approximately).
The current Zenfone handsets retail in 14 countries, and Shen said that the new ones will be released in about 20 markets. Asus hopes to sell a total of 16 million smartphones throughout 2015 up from about 8 million units this year. Asus recently had also announced that it wants to be among the top five smartphone players in India by 2015.
