An unannounced Asus smartphone has been benchmarked on Geekbench pointing at entry-level specifications. The benchmark listing reveals that the smartphone has 1GB of RAM, and is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset. Since Snapdragon 425 is a 28nm processor with support for display resolution up to 1280×800 pixels, it is safe to assume that the Asus smartphone will launch with a 720p HD display. The benchmarks scores alone are not that great, which is acceptable for a smartphone in this class.
The Asus X00RD scored 640 in single-core test and 1,664 in multi-core test. While the full specification list of the device is missing at the point of writing, there is a possibility that the device will debut as Zenfone Go (2018). Asus has not publicly shared any plans regarding support for Android Go edition.
Google announced Android Oreo (Go edition) as a lightweight version of company’s main operating system at ‘Google For India’ event in December last year. With Android Go, Google plans to replace all of its major apps with lighter version and some of them have already started appearing on the Play Store.
With Android Go, Google plans to ship Google Go as default search app while YouTube will be replaced by YouTube Go. The OS will also include apps like Files Go for memory optimization and file sharing feature while Google Assistant will be replaced with Assistant Go. There are several other lightweight apps that Google plans to add to the operating system.
Micromax was expected to launch first Android Go device in the form of Bharat Go last month. The Android Oreo (Go edition) is widely seen by analysts as Google’s effort to connect next billion users with its Android operating system.
