After having taken the wraps off at CES earlier this year, Asus is finally going to launch the Zenfone 2 in India tomorrow. In the run up to the event, Asus has teased different aspects and has also confirmed that it will be launching three variants of the flagship. The Asus Zenfone 2 is the first smartphone to feature 4GB of RAM, and includes a set of specifications that can rival some of the tier-one flagships. The company has already targeted the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, as well as the Apple iPhone 6. It has also taken digs at the flash sales employed by rival companies like Xiaomi, and OnePlus, and has revealed that the Zenfone 2 will be easily available for buyers. Asus unveiled five variants of the Zenfone 2 earlier this year, and will be bringing three of them to India. All the models are called Zenfone 2, but have a string of alphanumerics that can somewhat make users understand what model they are buying. While the phones might look and feel the same, there are some key differences.
Four out of the five variants have a lot of things in common the dimensions are exactly the same, 5.5-inch display, expandable memory card slot, 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front facing cameras, a 3,000mAh battery, LTE, dual-SIM and other connectivity options. All five of them however run on Android Lollipop out of the box. To make things matter more confusing, the five variants of the Zenfone 2 have just three model numbers to differentiate ZE551ML, ZE550ML and ZE500CL.
Asus has repeatedly highlighted the fact that the Zenfone 2 features 4GB of RAM. Taking this into consideration it is safe to assume that the top-end ZE551ML variant could be launching tomorrow. ZE551ML however comes in three variants that can be easily differentiated with their internal storage.
The most expensive one of them has 64GB that comes with 4GB of RAM and a 2.3GHz Intel Atom Z3580 quad-core processor. It is followed by the 32GB variant that also has 4GB of RAM but a 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3560 quad-core processor. The basic variant has 16GB internal storage, 2GB RAM and the same processor as the 32GB variant. It won t be surprising if Asus launches these three variants in India tomorrow.
Asus however could choose to swap one of the aforementioned variants with the Zenfone 2 (ZE550ML). This variant essentially flaunts a 5.5-inch display, but at a lower 720p resolution, and is powered by the 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3560 quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. The handset also features 16GB internal storage, microSD card slot, 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3,000mAh battery.
The cheapest of the five variants is called the Zenfone 2 (ZE500CL). Chances for this variant launching tomorrow are bleak at best, since it is the only one to feature a smaller 5-inch screen. It is also relatively smaller with dimensions of 71.5 148.1×10.9 mm and weighs 150 grams.
It features a 720p display, 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage, 8-megapixel and 2-megapixel cameras, and a 2,500mAh battery. Unlike the others, it only boasts a single-SIM card slot.
