After unveiling the Zenfone 3 at Computex 2016 back in June, Asus added two more smartphones to the series, namely Zenfone 3 Laser and Zenfone 3 Max. Of the two, the Zenfone 3 Laser has now gone on sale via Flipkart with a price tag of Rs 18,999. The smartphone will be available on Flipkart for a month, post which it will also be available at leading offline retail stores. The Asus Zenfone 3 Laser is the lowest priced smartphone in the series, which also includes the likes of Zenfone 3, Zenfone 3 Deluxe, Zenfone 3 Ultra, and the Zenfone 3 Max. With the Zenfone 3 range, we introduced a series of smartphones in India to appeal to a wide range of audience. The Zenfone 3 Laser is the perfect blend of affordability and luxury, with its high-class specifications at an affordable price tag,” Peter Chang, Region Head of South Asia for Asus said. As the name suggests, the Zenfone 3 Laser is the successor to the Zenfone 2 Laser, which was launched in India last year.
Asus Zenfone 3 Laser specifications
The Asus Zenfone 3 Laser features a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display with 2.5D curved glass and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The display comes with a special feature called Bluelight filter , which is aimed at reducing eye fatigue. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 64-bit octa-core chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. In addition to this, the smartphone comes with 32GB onboard storage that is further expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card.
The Asus Zenfone 2 Laser s USP was its 13-megapixel rear camera, and the Zenfone 3 Laser retains it with a bunch of new features. The new smartphone’s camera is accompanied by a Sony IMX214 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, second-gen 0.03s laser auto-focus, Color correction RGB sensor and dual-LED real tone flash. It is also equipped with electronic image stabilization (EIS) for blur-free videos. The second generation laser system has a range of 1.5 meters which is twice the distance of other laser focus systems.
Up front, the Zenfone 3 Laser sports an 8-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and 89-degree wide angle view. The selfie camera is also equipped with features like HDR and Lowlight selfie. The connectivity options available with the Zenfone 3 Laser are dual-SIM support, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct and hotspot and Bluetooth 4.0. The smartphone also comes with a fingerprint sensor embedded on the rear end which Asus claims can unlock the smartphone in 0.3 seconds. The smartphone allows registration of up to five fingerprints.
On the software front, the Zenfone 3 Laser runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based ZenUI 3.0. In terms of battery, the smartphone is powered by a 3,000mAh battery which Asus claims can give a 22 day standby on a 3G network. In comparison to its predecessor, there have been some noticeable changes which were a given considering the high price difference. To begin with, there is a downgrade from the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection in the Zenfone 2 Laser to Gorilla Glass 3 protection in the Zenfone 3 Laser. The RAM and onboard storage have increased from the previous 2GB and 16GB to 4GB and 32GB. Also an upgrade is the Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor from the previous Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor. The software also has an upgrade from Android Lollipop ZenUI to Android Marshmallow Zen UI 3.0. The selfie camera has been improved from 5-megapixels to 8-megapixels. The other specifications remain the same more or less and what have been explained above are the major changes and improvements made.
