After unveiling the Zenfone 2 at CES last year, all eyes are now set on Asus upcoming Zenfone 3 series. Asus had launched as many as four variants of the Zenfone 2, and much of the same is expected of the Zenfone 3 this year as well. Two unannounced Asus smartphones with model numbers Z010DD and Z012D, believed to be part of the Zenfone 3 series, were spotted by PocketNow on GFXBench along with a list of specifications and features. The Asus Z010DD comes with a 5.9-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display, Qualcomm s Snapdragon 615 octa-core chipset clocled at 1.5GHz and 3GB of RAM. It also features 32GB internal storage, 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, and it runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
The Asus Z012D, on the other hand, seems to be a more premium variant with a better set of specifications. It features a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display, Qualcomm s Snapdragon 650 hexa-core chipset clocked at 1.7GHz and 3GB of RAM. It also features 32GB internal storage, and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
While the two listings don t mention, the Zenfone 3 are also expected to feature a fingerprint scanner as is the norm with mid-range and flagship smartphones these days. Additionally, Asus chairman Jonney Shih has also all but confirmed that the Zenfone 3 will feature an USB Type-C port. Asus is said to be hosting an event sometime in May this year, when it will take the wraps off the new Zenfone 3.
