Asus, not surprisingly, is said to have already started working on its next-generation Zenfone 3 smartphones. As per reports from Taiwan, one of the features that will be a talking point on the forthcoming smartphones is a fingerprint sensor.
The Zenfone 3 is likely to be the first in Asus’ lineup to boast a fingerprint sensor. This feature was missing on the Zenfone 2, launched earlier this year, but has become a standard feature on most high-end and flagship smartphones. Even some mid-range smartphones launched this year have offered this feature.
Besides the increasing competition, falling prices of the fingerprint scanners too is said to be a reason why Asus is opting for it, DigiTimes reports. Due to an increase in orders, prices of the fingerprint sensors could fall to as low as $5 in 2016. As per reports, nearly 50 percent of the soon-to-launch smartphones are likely to boast a fingerprint scanner.
While details are scarce, Asus chairman Jonney Shih recently confirmed another feature of the Zenfone 3 – USB Type-C. In an interview he said, “I think Type-C is the way to go, frankly speaking. You will see the answer when you see the Zenfone 3.”
This year Asus unveiled the Zenfone 2 at CES in January, but DigiTimes claims that one will have to wait much longer for the Zenfone 3. In fact the earliest we could see the next-generation Zenfone will be in May or June.
