Asus Zenfone 4 to get Android 8.0 Oreo update by December end

Back in August, reports surfaced online suggesting that Asus will roll out Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Zenfone 4. Now, Asus has just confirmed that the ZenFone 4 will receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update by December-end. Although the company had promised an update for all ZenFone 3 and ZenFone 4 smartphones, it will eventually get the update by the second half of 2018. Asus ZenFone 4 is currently running on last year’s Android Nougat out-of-the-box. The company has not confirmed a particular date for the release as yet. Asus said that it is cutting back on bloatware, and that the new version of ZenUI has 16 pre-installed apps compared to the old version, which has 35 apps pre-installed. Google has added some minor changes to the interface along with some new additions. To begin with, the settings menu in the OS will be more refined with new fonts and icons. Further, other than claiming to offer a better battery life, the battery statistics also get a redesign on Android O.

Among other talked features, there is the picture-in-picture mode, which allows you to continue watching videos in a floating window while using other apps. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and other such apps are expected to add support for the feature too. Other features include background limits to ensure lower data consumption and better battery life, notification channels, high-quality audio, adaptive icons, and more.

To recap, the Asus Zenfone 4 feature a 5.5-inch display. The smartphone 4 comes in two variants one with Snapdragon 630 SoC, and one with Snapdragon 660 SoC. Both variants come with 6GB of RAM, and internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card.

On the camera front, the Zenfone 4 comes with the dual-camera setup at the back with a 12-megapixel and an 8-megapixel lens. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel camera. Keeping the smartphones ticking is 3,300mAh battery.
