Asus has been doing a fairly good job of keeping its smartphones updated. The Taiwanese technology major has now begun rolling out OTA updates for two of its smartphones – Zenfone 5Z and Zenfone Max Pro (M1). While the former is Asus’ 2018 flagship, the latter is the company’s first smartphone (at least, in India) to run stock Android (Oreo) out-of-the-box. If you own on (or both) of these smartphones, here’s what you can expect from the new OTA update(s).
Asus Zenfone 5Z
Bearing version number 22.214.171.124, the update includes the security patch for the month of October 2018. In addition, it also features some camera enhancements for Asus’ flagship Zenfone 5Z. These include optimized AI-based scene detection, as well as improved camera functions like brightness levels auto and HDR mode, auto white balance, and noise reduction.
Asus Zenfone Max Pro (M1)
Having version identifier OPM1.WW_Phone-15.2016.1810.334-20181019, the update brings the October 2018 security patch for Asus Zenfone Max Pro (M1). Other than that, the OTA update is said to improve power optimization and enhance waking up the device by double tapping/swiping up on the display.

As is always the case with over-the-air software rollouts, the above-mentioned updates are being seeded in a phased manner, so it may take a while for them to reach all Zenfone 5Z and Zenfone Max Pro (M1) units in the wild. You can also head over to the software update section under the smartphones’ settings to manually check for the update.
