Expanding its mobile portfolio in the country, Asus has just launched two smartphones – Zenfone Lite L1 and Zenfone Max M1 – in India. While both devices are quite affordable, Zenfone Lite L1, with its price of Rs 5,999 (during the initial festive season, the regular price is Rs 6,999), is an entry-level smartphone, targeted at first-time buyers.
That price may be competitive, but the Zenfone Lite L1 has its work cut out. The smartphone will be going against the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 6A and Realme C1, two of the most-popular smartphones in the entry-level segment. Want to know how Asus’ latest offering stacks up (on paper) against the competition? Here’s our comparison between Asus Zenfone Lite L1, Xiaomi Redmi 6A, and Realme C1.
Even though its regular price is Rs 6,999, during the initial festive season, customers will be able to get Asus’ Zenfone Lite L1 at a discounted price of Rs 5,999. The entry-level variant of Xiaomi’s Redmi 6A, which has identical RAM and internal storage as Asus’ offering, is also priced at Rs 5,999. In comparison, Realme C1 is a little expensive, having a price tag of Rs 6,999.
Design and display
Asus Zenfone Lite L1 features a plastic construction, albeit with a metallic finish. Xiaomi Redmi 6A and Realme C1 aren’t any different either, with both being made from plastic. All three smartphones look decent for the price, though none of them is a head-turner. Thanks to extra-tall displays, they are quite compact for easy one-handed usage.
Speaking of displays, Asus Zenfone Lite L1 features a 5.45-inch HD+ panel, with a resolution of 720×1440 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. That’s exactly the same as Xiaomi Redmi 6A’s panel. On the other hand, Realme C1 features a larger 6.2-inch display, complete with a notch and a 19:9 aspect ratio. That said, the C1’s screen is still HD+, maxing out at 720×1520 pixels.
Basic hardware and software
Powering the Zenfone Lite L1 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, comprised of an octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU. It’s paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, with a dedicated expansion slot that can take up microSD cards of up to 256GB. In comparison, Xiaomi Redmi 6A features MediaTek’s Helio A22 SoC, which has a quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU. It’s complemented by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of RAM, with a separate expansion slot that supports microSD cards of up to 256GB. Lastly, Realme C1 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset, with an octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU. With that, you get 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, and there’s a dedicated expansion slot that can take up microSD cards of up to 256GB.
While it’s easy to see that all three smartphones share similar hardware, Xioami’s Redmi 6A clearly has the edge here, with its (potentially) more efficient 12nm SoC. It’s followed by Realme C1, which has a 14nm chipset, whereas Asus Zenfone Lite L1, with its dated 28nm SoC, comes in at number three.
Coming to software, all three smartphones run Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, with each having its own custom UI overlay baked on top.
For imaging, Asus Zenfone Lite L1 features a single 13-megapixel (f/2.0) camera, which is similar to Xiaomi Redmi 6A’s 13-megapixel (f/2.2) primary shooter. However, they are both left behind (at least, on paper) by Realme C1’s dual rear camera setup, comprised of a 13-megapixel (f/2.2) sensor and a 2-megapixel (f/2.4) depth sensor.
As far as the front-facing cameras are concerned, the Zenfone Lite L1 features a 5-megapixel selfie snapper with LED flash. Xiaomi’s Redmi 6A also has a 5-megapixel selfie shooter, but sans LED flash. Lastly, Realme C1 has a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper as well, but no LED flash.
Watch: How Realme Phones Are Made
Asus Zenfone Lite L1 is backed by a 3,000mAh battery, which seems more than adequate, given the smartphone’s mediocre hardware. Xiaomi Redmi 6A also has a 3,000mAh battery powering its entry-level innards. However, Realme C1 clearly edges out the two in this department, with a 4,230mAh battery rounding off its spec sheet.
