After strong demand for the Zenfone Max Pro M1, Asus is back with two new smartphones for the Indian market. The company has launched Zenfone Max M1 and Zenfone Lite L1 as its newest entry-level devices. Both the devices are Flipkart exclusive and are aimed to take on the likes of similar devices from brands like Xiaomi and Realme.

Asus Zenfone Max M1 and Zenfone Lite L1 mainly differ in terms of camera configuration and battery capacity. The Zenfone Max M1 is Asus’s challenger to Xiaomi’s Redmi 6 and Realme 2. With Zenfone Max Pro M1, Asus has shown that it has what it takes to challenge Xiaomi but it now needs to compete with Realme as well. Asus Zenfone Max M1 vs Xiaomi Redmi 6 vs Realme 2: Design and Display

Asus Zenfone Max M1, like other smartphones in this price segment, features a polycarbonate body with metallic finish. It sports a 5.45-inch display with HD+ resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. The display and design of Zenfone Max M1 is almost identical to that of Xiaomi Redmi 6, which also has a 5.45-inch HD+ display and taller 18:9 aspect ratio.

As far as display and design is concerned, the Realme 2 is a clear winner with its diamond finish on the back and larger 6.2-inch display. While most critics have expressed their displeasure with notch, consumers love the concept since it extends the surface area of the display. With Realme 2, Oppo‘s sub-brand is offering a display that is not only bigger but also taller with 19:9 aspect ratio.

Asus Zenfone Max M1 vs Xiaomi Redmi 6 vs Realme 2: Specifications

Asus Zenfone Max M1 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, which is an octa-core CPU with eight Cortex A53 cores. The processor is based on older 28nm process and is aided by 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. Xiaomi Redmi 6, on the other hand, is using a MediaTek Helio P22 SoC, which is again an octa-core processor and is among the first Xiaomi device with MediaTek processor in India.

However, if you see raw performance alone then Realme 2 seems to have a clear edge. For starters, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC, which is an octa-core CPU with eight Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The faster clock frequency is aided by a 14nm process, which offers faster performance without affecting the efficiency of the device. It also comes with an option for 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB of 64GB storage.

It would be premature to discount Zenfone Max M1’s camera without testing it out in real-world conditions but it does not sound that great on paper. While Redmi 6 and Realme 2 have dual rear camera setup, the Zenfone Max M1 has a single rear camera.

Asus has put a 13-megapixel camera sensor on the back of Zenfone Max M1 while at the front, it gets an 8-megapixel shooter. The Redmi 6 uses the tried and tested combination of dual 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel camera setup on the back and a 5-megapixel camera at the front. Realme 2, on the other hand, has a combination of 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel dual rear camera setup and an 8-megapixel camera for selfies.

Asus Zenfone Max M1 is priced at Rs 7,499, which is a respectable price and put in the same league as that of Redmi 6, which also starts at Rs 7,999. However, Realme 2, which costs Rs 1,000 more, offers larger display and bigger battery and can also stake claims for being the a better-designed smartphone in this price segment.
