Asus created quite an uproar in the Indian smartphone market this year with some excellent offerings like the Zenfone 5Z, and the affordable Zenfone Max Pro M1. Thanks to their extremely aggressive pricing, the Taiwanese brand was able to go toe-to-toe with the segment’s strongest players like Xiaomi. Since then, the Indian populace has been awaiting a refresh of the series with even better value-for-money successors.
They won’t have to wait very long though as Asus will be hosting a launch event for the Zenfone Max Pro M2 in Indonesia on December 11. Now its toned down version, the Zenfone Max M2, has appeared on Taiwan’s NCC certification portal. Not much can be extracted from these listings usually, but it does hint that the device is inching close to launch.
Apart from the certification, little is known about the handset. Rumors circulating on the airwaves hint that it could rock a Snapdragon 636 SoC, which drives the Max Pro M1, and the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The display is expected to be a 6-inch full HD+ panel with a screen resolution of 1080×2280 pixels. There could likely be 4GB and 6GB variants for the mid-ranger while 64GB and 128GB could be storage options.
The Zenfone Max line is known to have bigger batteries, and the Zenfone Max M2 could continue that lineage with a massive 5,000mAh juice pack. There’s relatively little known about the actual design of the handset.

The Zenfone Max Pro M2, on the other hand, could very well set the mid-range market on fire once again as rumors have hinted at a triple-camera setup, and a Snapdragon 660 SoC. Asus teased the handset on it’s Indonesia Twitter handle today. If that is anything to go by, the Max Pro M1 successor will also feature a minimalistic notch like the Zenfone 5Z. It’s launch is on December 11. As far as the Zenfone Max Pro M2 is concerned, Asus has remained mum about its potential launch date.
