Asus became the most legitimate threat to Xiaomi when it launched the ZenFone Max Pro M1 early this year. The smartphone offered specifications that competed directly with Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro and had an attractive price, along with stock Android experience. Now, it seems Asus is preparing to add another storage variant to further challenge Xiaomi’s dominance in the Indian market. The ZenFone Max Pro M1 is the first smartphone to launch as part of a strategic partnership with Flipkart. While the smartphone was launched in two storage variants of 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, the Taiwanese smartphone maker confirmed that it will introduce a higher variant with 6GB RAM + 64GB storage soon. While it did not confirm the timeline, Flipkart might have jumped the gun and revealed the imminent launch of the variant. A listing spotted on Flipkart by Smartprix shows that the product page is under construction and could be released soon. Apart from higher RAM, the smartphone will also bear a different camera setup. It will offer a combination of 16-megapixel and 5-megapixel dual rear camera configuration. It will also have an updated 16-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calling. Otherwise, the specifications will largely remain the same.
The ZenFone Max Pro features a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, the same chipset also found under the hood of Redmi Note 5 Pro. It has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and supports face unlock with over-the-air (OTA) software update.
