Asus made a grand comeback in the Indian market with its mid-range smartphone, the Zenfone Max Pro M1. Besides aggressive pricing, the smartphone gets other things right – a massive 5,000mAh battery, Stock Android OS, 18:9 display, dual cameras, and more. The Zenfone Max Pro M1 also comes with Project Treble support which should help in rolling out faster software updates.

Now, Google has been working on the next iteration of Android OS, the Android P, and a Developer Preview version of the same has been available for a bunch of devices out there. These include the Nokia 7 Plus, OnePlus 6, Essential Phone PH-1, and of course, the Pixel-smartphones. Now, a crafty developer at XDA Developer Forums has managed port the Android P Developer Preview 3 version of Android P to the Zenfone Max Pro M1.

If you are interested, you can download and install it on your Zenfone Max Pro M1. Simply head over to this link for installation instructions –

Do note that this is an unofficial port, and not something that Google or Asus is offering. There are certain things that work. The device boots, audio, Wi-Fi, VoLTE and Hotspot works. However, Google setup keeps crashing, NFC support is missing, and InCall audio gives problems at times. Do remember, give it a try only if you have the Max Pro M1 as a spare device, and not on something that is a daily driver.

As this is beta software there will be bugs, and apps may force close at times. Also, in case anything goes wrong, there are high chances of your device getting bricked. We won’t recommend flashing the firmware, but if you are adventurous enough to give it a try, do let us know about your experience in the comments below.
