Nearly 8 months after launching the Zenfone Max Pro M1 in India, Asus has now launched its successor, the Zenfone Max Pro M2. The new smartphone comes with a notched display, glass back with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection, and an even more powerful chipset, among other improvements. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 will closely compete with the likes of Realme 2 Pro, Honor 8X and Redmi Note 6 Pro. Here’s a look at how these smartphones fare based on their price, specifications and features.
Price in India, availability
The Zenfone Max Pro M2 is offered in three variants – 3GB RAM with 32GB storage priced at Rs 12,999, 4GB RAM with 64GB storage priced at Rs 14,999, and 6GB RAM with 64GB storage model priced at Rs 16,999. The smartphone will go on sale exclusively via Flipkart starting December 18.
The Redmi Note 6 Pro is priced at Rs 13,999 for the base model, and Rs 15,999 for the top-end model with 6GB of RAM. It is available via Flipkart and mi.com/in. The Honor 8X price starts at Rs 14,999 for 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model. The company is also offering two other variants – Rs 16,999 for 6GB RAM with 64GB storage, and Rs 18,999 for 6GB RAM with 128GB storage. You can buy the Honor 8X from Amazon India.
Lastly, the Realme 2 Pro, is priced at Rs 13,990 for the 4GB RAM variant, Rs 15,990 for the 6GB RAM variant, and Rs 17,990 for the top-end model with 8GB RAM. You can purchase the smartphone from Flipkart.
Design and display
In terms of design, the Zenfone Max Pro M2 comes with a glass back, with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. The Honor 8X, also comes with glass back design and a dual tone finish, offering it a premium look and feel. The Redmi Note 6 Pro features a metal back, whereas the Realme 2 Pro comes with polymer glass back.
The Zenfone Max Pro M2 features a 6.26-inch Full HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio. The Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with a slightly smaller 6.24-inch full HD+ panel, 19:9 aspect ratio, and comes a notched display. Both Honor 8X and Realme 2 Pro also feature notched displays, and while Realme 2 Pro has a 6.3-inch FHD+ display, the Honor 8X comes with a 6.5-inch FHD+ panel. Both smartphone displays run at a resolution of 1080x2340pixels and aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

Under the hood, both Zenfone Max Pro M2 and the Realme 2 Pro are powered by a Snapdragon 660 SoC, whereas the Redmi Note 6 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 636 SoC. The Honor 8X, on the other hand, is powered by a Kirin 710 octa-core SoC.
All four smartphones include a microSD card slot for expandable storage. To keep things ticking, the Zenfone Max Pro M2 comes with a massive 5,000mAh battery, whereas the Redmi Note 6 Pro is armed with a 4,000mAh battery. The Honor 8X comes with 3,750mAh battery, whereas the Realme 2 Pro comes with smallest battery capacity among the four smartphones – 3,500mAh.
Talking about connectivity – Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, and dual-SIM card slots with 4G VoLTE are common among all four devices. For security, you get a physical fingerprint scanner and the smartphones also include face unlock feature.
On the software front, the Zenfone Max Pro M2 runs on stock Android 8.1 Oreo OS, the Redmi Note 6 Pro runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 10 skin, whereas the Honor 8X runs Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.1. Lastly, the Realme 2 Pro also runs Android 8.1 Oreo with Color OS on top. All four smartphone makers have promised Android 9 Pie update for the respective smartphones, and it will be rolled out sometime next year.
This is where the Zenfone Max Pro M2 sees some improvements. You still get dual cameras at the back, but with improved sensors. The primary sensor is of 12-megapixel resolution with f/1.8 aperture, and it is supplemented with a secondary depth sensor. Up front, the smartphone comes with a 13-megapixel selfie snapper with LED flash.
The Redmi Note 6 Pro features a 12-megapixel primary sensor of f/1.9 aperture, and a 5-megapixel secondary depth sensor, whereas the Honor 8X includes a 20-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The Realme 2 Pro, on the other hand, comes with a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. All four smartphone cameras are backed by AI with scene detection to help you capture better photos.
For selfies and video calling, the Realme 2 Pro and Honor 8X come with 16-megapixel front cameras, whereas the Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with dual front cameras, a combination that includes 20-megapixel primary snapper and a 2-megapixel secondary snapper.
