After unveiling the Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom and Zenfone AR smartphones at the CES 2017, Asus has quietly launched a new smartphone in China. Part of the Zenfone series, the Asus Zenfone Pegasus 3S is essentially successor to the Zenfone Pegasus 3 smartphone which was launched last year. The Pegasus 3S comes with a change in the design and also as expected, with improved performance. The Asus Zenfone Pegasus 3S smartphone comes in two storage variants — 32GB and 64GB — with the latter priced at 1,999 Yuan (Rs 19,700 approximately). The company hasn’t disclosed the price of the 32GB version. The smartphone is set to go on sale this month in China. There is no word on its global launch as yet. The Asus Zenfone Pegasus 3S smartphone houses a fingerprint scanner which is embedded in the Home button, unlike its predecessor which had the scanner on the rear of the smartphone. The fingerprint scanner can save up to five different fingerprints and also comes with support for payments. Clad in an all-metal body, the smartphone s antenna bands are placed on the top and bottom end which seems to be an inspiration from Apple s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Its predecessor had the antenna bands running along the back of the smartphone.

The Asus Zenfone Pegasus 3S features a 5.2-inch IPS HD display along with a 2.5D glass on top and a high screen-to-body ratio. At the core of the smartphone runs a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core 64-bit processor. The smartphone comes with 3GB of RAM, with two storage options of 32GB and 64GB. There is an option to expand the storage via a microSD card up to 2TB. In the photography department, the Asus Zenfone Pegasus 3S smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and phase detection autofocus (PDAF). Up front, the smartphone houses an 8-megapixel selfie camera. Asus has included the PixelMaster technology for intelligent shooting and ease of use.
For power, the smartphone uses a massive 5,000mAh battery which the company claims can give up to 30 days of standby time. Furthermore, the smartphone comes with 5V/2A fast charge support and also features five smart power saving modes. The connectivity options offered by the smartphone include dual-SIM support, 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On the software front, the Asus Zenfone Pegasus 3S smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. In comparison, the Asus Zenfone Pegasus 3 features a 5.2-inch HD display. At the core of the smartphone runs a MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor. The smartphone comes in two variants of 2GB RAM plus 16GB onboard storage and 3GB RAM plus 32GB onboard storage. In the photography department, the smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, LED flash. Up front, the smartphone sports a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. The Asus Zenfone Pegasus 3 smartphone is powered by a 4,100mAh battery and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Its connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
If launched in India, the Asus Zenfone Pegasus 3S could go up against the Motorola Moto M and Lenovo Z2 Plus. The Motorola Moto M is priced at Rs 17,999. It features a 5.5-inch full HD IPS LCD display with 2.5D Curved Glass protection. Under its hood runs a MediaTek Helio P15 octa-core 64-bit processor clocked at 2.2GHz and paired with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 64GB onboard storage. For photography, the Moto M sports a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. As for the Lenovo Z2 Plus, priced at Rs 19,999, the smartphone features a 5-inch full HD (1080p) display and 2.5D curved glass on top. Under its hood, runs Qualcomm s Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor. The smartphone comes in two variants of 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage and 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage. For photography, the smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, electronic image stabilization (EIS) and LED flash. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie camera. The smartphone is powered by a 3,500mAh battery along with support for Quick Charge 3.0 and a feature called intelligent charge cut-off (ICC) to ensure it doesn t overcharge.
