Earlier this year in January, Asus announced a camera-centric smartphone, called the ZenFone Zoom. Asus claims that it is one of the thinnest smartphones that comes with a 3X optical zoom. The smartphone has been released in Taiwan and China, and is expected to be available soon in other markets as well. The company has released a global promo that showcases camera features and capabilities of the ZenFone Zoom. The video focuses on the way the camera module has been constructed while keeping the smartphone as thin as possible. It is equipped with a 13-megapixel SmartFSI sensor and comprises of 10 lenses – which includes four aspherical glasses, four glass lenses and two prism lenses. The ZenFone Zoom has a horizontal dual-periscope mechanism with optical image stabilization to keep blurry photos away, Asus says in the video. The ZenFone Zoom video also highlights the unibody design of the handset and the diamond cut edges that offer a premium look and feel to it. The smartphone also has physical shutter and video recording button on the edge.
Asus ZenFone Zoom specifications and features: The smartphone flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) IPS display. Under the hood, it runs Intel’s Atom Z3580 quad-core SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. There is another variant with Intel’s Atom Z3590 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage. A microSD card slot is also present for further expansion.
Other features include 5-megapixel front camera, a 3,000mAh battery, 4G LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and GPS. In China, the smartphone is priced at CNY 2,799 (approximately Rs 28,145) for 64GB version and CNY 3,199 (approximately Rs 32,500) for 128GB version. As of now, there is no word on the pricing and availability in India. If the company has any plans to launch the smartphone in India, we may soon hear about it.
